What is that smell?!?!? Where'd you go??

[this is good]
oh what a mess to come home to after all those hours of work and driving. I couldn't handle that long of a compute. With these awful gas prices it can become insane.
Oh no! Poor Darcy and poor Trish! I understand about the cleaning up thing, though usually I get "I'll take care of the kids while you clean".

yugh. Teulu did this one day, and of course, it was on the night before I was supposed to show my apartment to potential renters.

He has similar car sick tendencies and a wierdly sensitive stomach, of which the only good thing about was that I was feeding him lamb and rice foods when the big dog food recall came about....

Darcy may have become anxious because you guys left, and her anxiety coupled with her food, may have caused her to have diarrhea. I know I get that if I become very anxious (I know, TMI !) But, I had to mention that so you could possibly relate to what might have happened to her. The cure? There may not be a cure, except to drug Darcy while you are gone, so she stays calm, which isn't really fair to her. The other option may be to have someone at your house while you are gone--a neighbor, friend, etc. Or keep Darcy outside??? Don't know about this situation. Now that Darcy's had a accident in her crate, she might relate to her crate as 'bad', because of bad memories. Or maybe not. It depends on Darcy. The out-of-left field option may be to give Darcy up and just keep animals in the house that are caged; ones you don't have to worry about when you travel for your jobs. Hope nothing like this happens and there's an easy solution.

I am happy to report that Darcy is feeling better this morning. She has eaten breakfast and is roaming about the house like normal.

I did not get her crate cleaned up last night before bed, so we let her sleep in the bedroom with us. She did quite well, no accidents didn't disturb Chris, and woke me about 5:30-ish letting me know that she needed to go outside. I did wake up about 3:00 or so and found her laying on the bed at my feet (not at all on Chris's side of the bed, just mine....). I felt bad kicking her off, but I needed to stretch my legs and I couldn't do that while she was laying on my feet. I'm hoping yesterday's incident is a blessing in disquise and I can take her crate apart. Only putting it together on those days that we both have to go to Tuscaloosa (about once a month).

We can't leave her outside on those days as she is on a chain and can get wrapped around a tree or tangled in the wisteria and not have access to water. That could be a potentially life threatening thing in Alabama in the summer.

When this house gets sold and we buy in Tuscaloosa we will have a fenced in yard, one that we can leave her out in when we are gone. One that she (and Baron) can run and play in w/o fear of them running away or getting lost chasing a squirrel or a deer.

you might consider leaving the bottom part of the crate out with a (new ha ha) carpet piece there for Darcy to lay in during the day. Frankly, these things happen. Teulu has had a few such incidents in his crate and he has no problem going back into it, and even seems to like the fact that it's really really clean.

I think too people tend to forget that while a crate IS confining, dogs are den animals, and like the security of the crate, and also they tend to forget that while Darcy was unable to get into trouble say by chewing on electrical cords, or doing otherwise unusual things that dogs do.

glad she's feeling better.
