I just got through reading _If I am Missing or Dead: A Sister's Story of Love, Murder, and Liberation_.

Uhm.  Wow!  I saw myself in this book a time or two (or three).  The author writes of her growing up years with a father that is not so nice.  Then she tells of turbulent young adult hood, complete with rape and a physically abusive boyfriend.  Interspersed in the story of her life she tells of her baby sister's life and subsequent death at the hands of an abuser.  Janine Latus also tells of her emotionally abusive relationship with her husband of many years.  This is where I saw myself.  She brought to mind some of the many times I felt like I had to have sex with my ex in order to not make him mad and not get into an all night argument.  Even then there were still accusations and arguments flung at me no matter the time of day or night.

This book is a must read for anybody embarking on their life.  This story of Janine and her sister, Amy, lets a person know in a non-threatening manner what is NOT normal and acceptable behaviour in a boyfriend or husband.  A person who says they love you should never ever threaten to kill you or any member of your family.  If this is happening to you, get out.  Get out now.  Get help and get out.  You can do it.  You deserve to feel safe in your own home.  Get out before he hurts you again.

She's in prison for her part in the brutal rape and murder of her 3 y/o daughter.  Now she has terminal cancer and wants to be let out of prison to die.  Uhm.  No.  She sentenced her baby girl to a terrible violent painful death by doing nothing to protect her, she stood by while this monster beat, raped and abused her.  Her sentence is 13-30 years---I vote for 30 and if she happens to die a slow painful death prison well then so be it.

I know, I know.  There are two sides to every story.  This story only tells the one side....There would still have to be a huge 'other side' of the story for me to change my mind.

More tragedy for children making the headlines today.

People abusing kids:  A story about formerly conjoined twins that were separeted at birth.  One was well enough to go home, he was returned to the hospital days later with swelling.  Tests revealed broken bones and fractures.  If you don't want your child, I'LL TAKE HIM/HER!!!  PLEASE QUIT ABUSING YOUR KIDS....THEY ARE PRECIOUS PRECIOUS  AND IRREPLACEABLE!!!

People killing kids:  A different story  About someone killing two babies and wrapping their bodies in trash bags, leaving them stashed under a house to just rot. 

Fires....I can't stand it:  The TV this morning was showing scenes from a fire in NYC that killed 8 kids and one adult.  The picture that is forever seered into my memory is the one of a small child sprawled on a stretcher; arms flung out and limp, the fireman/perimedic doing CPR/chest compressions....Witnesses were saying that there was a woman on the top floor (third story) that was throwing her children out of the windows in hopes of saving them from becoming a victim of the fire.  Several people caught children as they were tossed.  A father reports that he got a phone call from his wife stating that the house was on fire.  He raced home only to find that his wife and all three children were trapped with no way out: he now has to find a way to go on w/o his family.  Then there is the father that was on a trip back to his homeland; he has to come home to bury five of his 11 children.
