We've survived another round of storms.
This morning after I found that a tornado had touched down this close >< to my in-laws house I was really on edge about the storm coming my way. Ater I received word that school was letting out early so the kids would be home before the severe stuff hit; I gathered 'storm supplies' and put them on the kitchen table. Then I sat back to wait on the weather, the closer it got the more nervous poor Darcy got. Jordan got home and I told him to leave his shoes on and if I hollered "Run!" he was to drop everything and run to the storm shelter. Not to question or say 'hold on a sec.' just run and I'd be behind him. I lost TV and the internet before the first loud clap of thunder hit. Once that hit, Darcy cowered under my desk while I was sitting here...when I moved, she was stuck to me like Velcro. The storm blasted through, high winds, blasting rain, no hail and I kept expecting to see a tree or branch blow by. But, nothing. The TV came back on just in time for a tornado warning to be declared for my corner of the county. I stuck around long enough to see that the storm had passed us and the warning was for people to the east and north of us. So, even though my specific little town was mentioned in the warning....we didn't 'seek shelter'.
Now, it is raining and the bad stuff is well east and north of us.
ah...springtime in Alabama.
oh, and no damage to my in-laws house (which is good 'cause they are out of town.) But, apparently the tornado caused damage to some buildings within a mile of their place, and then it hopped over the main part of town and went towards the mall and hit a tractor supply place, tossing tractors and other outside equipment around. As far as I've heard there weren't any injuries.
ah....springtime in Mississippi.
My corner of Alabama had severe weather today, including two tornado warnings. Luckily there was no damages nor injuries.
Just wanted to let you know that I am safe and sound. No worries for me and mine.
There is currently some pretty nasty stuff including tornado touch downs further south and east of me. But for the time being all bad weather has passed by the I-Luv-Eeyore household.
Hey everyone! Spring is here in Alabama and the pollen is high high high.
So high that it seems my regular prescription allergy medicine is barely working.
Does anyone know if I can take an OTC allergy medicine (like Claritin or Benadryl) with the Flonase and Zyrtec that I'm already taking? Or do I need to see my doctor about changing doses or medicines?
Thanks...Sneezy
Have you heard about the bus crash in Alabama that killed a Marine?
******more updated info****
***Updated information****
His tibia and fibula have two breaks each for a total of four breaks. The doctor said that this is the worst break he has ever seen, even worse than the break suffered by the Crimson Tide's Prothro(warning: that is a graphic picture and not for the squeamish). Bennett has already undergone surgery to have pins and steel rods put in. He can not put any weight on his leg for at least two months and it could be up to six months before the doctors can determine if it will heal properly or not.
He served a tour of duty in Iraq....and came home to be injured in a bus crash.
Please send prayers and good thoughts to the family of the Marine that didn't make it, to all the others that were injured, and to all of our service men/women serving our country.
It's cold out and getting colder.
The weather service is predicting 2.5 inches of accumulated snow in my part of Alabama.
It's been so nice and spring-like lately that all of the trees and bushes are budding with life. I have a peach tree that is in full blossom, the daffodils are swinging their bright lovely yellow heads in the breeze and sunshine, and the blueberry bushes are this close>< to bursting into flowers. So, it is going to snow tonight, and get really really cold tomorrow night and the next night.
Jordan and I just went out and covered the bushes with my sheets. I can only hope that this will protect the tender flower buds from the cold weather.
I bet the people driving down the road thought I was crazy out there struggling to get the sheets over/around the bushes. Now my yard looks like a strange clothes line.
Anybody know if it is okay to just leave the sheets on for the next few days? Or should I take them off every day and replace them at night?
Oh, and in case you want to know how big those bushes are: those are queen sized sheets.
Now, onto the question...
I was IM'ing with an internet 'friend' yesterday. (She has a questionable past as there is always a LOT of drama surrounding her. I don't mean little drama's either, something huge is always going on. So, anything she says I take with a grain of salt and only half believe it. Because, really....how much bad stuff can happen to one person?) anyway...she said in the part of Wisconsin where she lives there is 55 inches of snow on the ground. Really? That is some pretty deep snow. Anybody here close to Wisconsin? She is in the south central part of the state. I know that it is possible that there has been 55 inches of snow fallen throughout the whole winter---but that much still on the ground yet to melt? I have another internet friend that is in Southern Canada, not too far from the Great Lakes region---she sent me pictures taken this morning and there isn't hardly any snow on the ground, there...just ice.
So, can anyone tell me if there is indeed 55 inches of snow on the ground in Wisconsin?
thanks.
Because Alabama, unlike most of the rest of America, is in the midst of some beautiful weather we took the dogs, the camera, and the frisbee discs, and went to the park yesterday. Unfortunately for the disc golfers there were some pretty good sized water puddles left over from the recent rain. I'm not complaining as Alabama needs the rain more than Chris and Jordan need to play disc golf.
So, they set about playing while I took the dogs and just walked/strolled. One of Jordan's first shots landed *splat!* right in the middle of a puddle. Chris kinda snickered as he went to retrieve his first shot. Jordan used a long stick to flip his disc out of the puddle and went about playing.
Chris took his second shot and it sailed right into the trees and down into the creek. (He shouldn't have snickered). Chris ended up taking his shoes and socks off in order to retrieve his disc. Of course I got a picture or two.
They were about 2/3s of the way through when I saw a hawk sitting on a fence. I handed off both dogs and tried to get a shot. I would have gotten a better shot, but the fence was at the parking lot and a couple of kids went running up to their car scaring the hawk off before I could get any closer.
Because of the size of the puddles and the little bit of wind we were experiencing the boys only put in 9 holes. Then we went and walked the nature trail. We had to keep Baron and Darcy under a tight leash as we passed a leashless dog that had obviously been in a fight---puncture wounds on his front leg and he wouldn't put it down, yet he was a bit growly as if to say 'this is my turf'. After that we came home. It won't be too long and it will be too hot to enjoy the park like we did yesterday.
"Today's high will be 97.
Tomorrow the heat returns with a high of 98."
That is a direct quote from the radio this morning. I guess 97 isn't hot; but boy howdy add one more degree and you get HOT!! They could actually say that we are having 'cooler weather' as the temps aren't expected in the triple digits until later in the week.
We were awakened at about 4:15 this morning by hail pounding down on our house. Luckily there wasn't any damage (as far as I can tell). I did manage to get a picture of one of the hail stones that woke us up.
There is the potential for some pretty severe stuff coming my way later this morning to early afternoon. They are calling for 20 tornados with 2 of the F3 or higher and at least 50 severe wind incidents. This is basically for the Northern half of Alabama and the eastern most part of Mississippi.
What a fun day is in store.
Storm Shelter: check
Flash light: check

Batteries: need to double check

I don't know what it is exactly, but I'm not in a good mood today. I could easily cry or go into a rage. Definately not happy.
I need to lose some weight. I am at an all time high. I weigh more now than I did even when I was 9 months pregnant with Tigger. That being said, I went about yesterday to try and eat more healthy 'stuff'. I ended up feeling starved all day long! Oatmeal and a banana for breakfast, a snack of trail mix, a lunch of a bowl of Special K, a snack of grapes, for supper baked boneless skinless chicken, rice, corn, and cornbread. I feel like I ate all day; I also feel like I was hungry all day. ~sigh~ This morning I had a bagel with cinnamon cream cheese on it and a half of an orange. For supper I am planning on baked fish, baked potatoes, and I don't know what else. I haven't started exercising yet, but I need to. I'm 42 and fat. I have to do something, but I can't stand feeling hungry, either! augh!!!
I'm behind at work (what else is new? I'm not sure I'll ever be caught up....it feels like a never ending battle.)
Kristen posted about baby fever this morning. I suffer from that all day every day; it is an ache that just will not go away. I really feel for Tigger....he already feels pressure to produce a child, and I've never ever intentionally made any reference to him having to have babies for me.
Hawk Eyes' posted snowy pictures of their new home. Man! That makes me miss snow and four seasons even more than I already was. Here in Alabama we already have flowers and trees in bloom. The air conditioner has been on a few times in the last couple of days and will come on again later this afternoon as it will be warm outside, which will cause the house to heat up to hot. It's been nearly 30 years since I was able to take a nice long walk in the snow. I ache for it...the silence of the woods after a snow, the squeakiness of snow boots as they break into the virgin snow....the 'floop!' as snow suddenly falls from branches that can no longer hold the weight.
We talk about adopting. It is always followed by: "Once we sell this house and get moved to T-Town." This stupid house has been on and off the market for three years!!! THREE!! Do you know how long that is in a life-time of a baby/child? I wish something definitive would happen one way or the other so we can get the ball rolling. I wish someone would just give me their baby.
yup...I'm Moody and behind at work....I'm avoiding work by posting this...I'm going back to work now.
