I have a 1cm 'spot' that only shows up on one view of the breast.
I was certainly put through the ringer this morning, though. The tech took three x-rays had me wait, then came back and took another one. Then I went in for an ultrasound----she took forever to take a bunch of pictures; then I waited while she showed the doctor...then she came in and did more ultrasound pictures----more waiting while the doctor looked. Another boob smoosh picture and I was finally told to go home and come back in six months.
Apparently this 'spot' is more dense than the rest of my breast tissue; but since it only shows up when I'm in a certain position it is not cancerous.
Chris and I went to the doctor this morning. He went because he's gained close to 30 pounds in the last 12 weeks and me because of a cough I've had for two to three weeks. As I predicted the doctor took some of Chris's blood to run some tests and set up an appointment for a resting metabolism rate check.
When it came time to look at me though, I was in for a couple of surprises one of which was a chest x-ray and the other was the doctor predicting, after listening to me cough that the outcome of the x-ray would be that I had whooping cough (pertussiss). He went on to explain that people 'our' age (he's close to me in age) are finding out the hard way that some of our imunizations are not working as they did when we were younger and we need boosters. Oh, great. Whooping cough...and where all have I been since I started coughing? My parent's (in their 70's), my in-law's (in their 60's), Houston (all my new and old friends) and numerous other places. I got to thinking of the newborn babies that I had just seen in the waiting room. I didn't go near them---but I had coughed and even though I covered my mouth germs are escapable little critters. ~sigh~ So, a few minutes of 'oh my goodness who all have I infected?' was going through my mind before the doctor came back and said "Nope, not whooping cough. Just good old fashioned bronchitis." ~sigh~ of relief.
So, why is it that you can have a cough for two to three weeks and feel fine, except for the cough; go see the doctor and he says "You've got bronchitis, you're sick." and *WHAM!!* you feel terrible....all you want to do is take a nap and not have to do anything? This was even before I took any of the meds he prescribed...two different cough meds AND an antibiotic but no decongestant to help clear the head even though he saw fluid behind my ears. Oh well, the pharmasist said I can take Sudafed with the other meds so I will.
I'm so happy I don't have whooping cough.
My 12 y/o son complained a few weeks about about a 'cut' in his groin area. We took a look, put some antibiotic cream on it and told him to do a better job washing himself. We asked about it the next day and he told us it was much better and didn't hurt anymore. We forgot about it. Until last Saturday when in passing Chris asked Jordan how his 'cut' was doing. Jordan said it was getting worse...so we took another look. His groin area looked bad and after doing some on-line research it was decided that the boy had jock itch. We bought some jock itch medicine and started spraying him with it once a day. Three days later after 'it' started getting worse I read the directions on the package (after letting Chris be in charge of reading the directions for the jock itch spray) and found that we were supposed to be spraying twice a day. Twice a day has commenced---but it is not getting better and 'it' is in fact spreading even more. Parts look rashy, parts look like raw open sores, and part just looks like dry scaly skin. The package says to see a doctor if there isn't relief in two weeks----but he's only 12!! I want to take him to the doctor on Monday, but he has a field trip at school. So, then what about Tuesday? Chris has to go to the office. Wednesday is a possibility but it is so far away!
This Momma just doesn't know what to do!!!!
My father-in-law has cancer. The doctor is saying that at the stage it is the cancer is 100% curable. He goes in on the 23rd for surgery on his neck so they can cut away the gland and any remaining tissue. After the surgeon is done the oncologist will come in and tell him whether or not Chemo and/or Radiation needs to happen. If he does need the Chemo or Radiation it will be three treatments at the most and possibly just one.
Acimic Carcinoma of the Parotid Gland (or something like that) is the 'name' of the type of cancer that has invaded our lives.
Prayers, vibes, positive thoughts (whatever you believe in) sent our way would be appreciated.
