According to my iGoogle Homepage anyway.
So, in honor of it being Nature Photography Day here are a few pictures I took of some of the flowers in my yard.
Can you believe the people that owned this house before us left that pretty pot that I have those pretty purple flowers in?
Someone PLEASE look at the bottom photo and tell me what kind of plant/flower/thing that is. I have no clue and we have five or six of them around the house.
The weather in Alabama in February is unpredictable at best.
We had snow:
I know....some of you are laughing, but this is a big deal here in Alabama.
Following the snow we have some of our Spring flowers in bloom:
Jordan watches for the bus every morning. Some mornings he gets help from Darcy:
OC (Outside Cat) was interested in the camera while I was out taking pictures of the flowers.
We had company from India on Friday night. I showed her how to bake cookies: she did a batch all by herself.
That was pretty much my February. Nothing overly exciting. I do, however, need to write up a post about what we saw while we were in Rome and Pompeii in January.
It is getting so pretty outside! The flowers are just exploding into blossom, the green weeds are going wild, now if the grass would just green up it might look decent outside. Of course with the greening comes the heat. ~sigh~ If only we could have Spring temps for more than just two weeks. It seems we go from highs in the 50s to highs in the 80s in less than two weeks. I hate it. The a/c has been going and blowing for several weeks now....and won't shut off again until ohhh...November if we're lucky.
Anyway...
Picture of the same azalea bush from last week.
Here's my wisteria bush....it's my very favorite bloom we have on our property. Last year it didn't bloom well as a late frost killed all of the blossoms. It isn't even in full bloom yet, but I'm scared a big wind or rain storm will come along and ruin an opportunity for a great shot.
And a close up: just because it's my favorite flower...
Of course all of the flowers mean the bees are out in force. We have regular bumble bees and honey bees. I managed to get a half-way decent shot of a bumble bee on a blueberry blossom:
None of my pictures would win any awards, but I'm happy with my camera and the shots it takes.
Spring has sprung in Alabama.
All of the spring flowers are in the early stages of blooming and the pollen count is high.
I took these pictures yesterday, and this morning I noticed that my wisteria bush is in the extreme early stages of bursting into purple.
This is the azalea bush that is just outside the front door. The bees are already loving this bush and Darcy is loving chasing the bees.
This is one of the blueberry bushes. All of the little pink/white blossoms will turn into individual blueberries. The bees are loving these bushes, too.
I missed getting a picture of the Bradford Pear in full bloom. The wind blew so hard the other day that it looked like large snow flakes falling; it was Bradford Pear blossoms. See Darcy running in the background? She's chasing a bee.
This sad looking excuse for a tree is a real pear tree. Late this summer the crows and other birds will feast upon the fruit this tree bears. Fruit that I have no clue what to do with as the pears are not the pick and eat kind, they aren't sweet enough or soft enough for that.
I took more pictures, but they don't look good when they get 'shrunk' so I'm not posting them. My yard is a colorfull mix of pinks, purples, yellows, whites, browns, and greens. If it weren't for the allergies: Spring would be my favorite season. Soon and very soon, it will be hot and I'll be miserable....I hate hot. Anything over 82 is too hot and it unacceptable for me.
