We had to have Orkin come to the house today to spray for termites. He also put those bait stations around the house every four feet or so. He wasn't gone three hours and Darcy has managed to get two of them out of the ground and in pieces. I hope the stuff in them isn't poisonous to dogs.
The boss-guy is supposed to give us a call to set up a QA appointment later this week or early next week. I guess he can put them back in at that time? I need to wait until Chris is otherwise occupied and go out to find a piece or two that I didn't find right away.
I'll wait until morning, after Chris has left for Tuscaloosa.
~sigh~
It's been a little while since I posted a Darcy update. Well, since she tore up the carpet and we contemplated becoming a dog-free home.
Rest assured, we are still a two-dog family. Baron is barely tolerating the new puppy as Darcy is now much much bigger than he is. Baron can now walk under Darcy and they won't touch. She's about 14/15 weeks old now and is over 20 pounds....she's growing so fast that she can't seem to eat enough to compensate, so she's skinny.
The house-training is slowly-ever-so-slowly coming along. She now averages about one accident a day. If I could just get the other people in the house to pay as much attention to her signals as I do...we would be pretty much accident free.
She'll sit on command, and she now sits when I go to put the chain on or take it off. She is a very intelligent dog (well, with the exception of house-training and being alone.) She does not like to be alone, and if she is left alone outside of her crate she will tear stuff up. Thus, she has to stay in the crate at night or when we aren't home. Which luckily for her is not that often. I just can't get her to 'come' when called. She's getting to the age where she will run off if she knows you are trying to get her to come into the house and she thinks she's not ready. This is very frustrating. She loves to chase a ball. She will chase it and return it to me about six times before her puppy attention span gets swapped to something else. I think it is pretty cool as I've never had a dog play fetch with me before (outside and with a ball....Baron will chase a toy, but he mostly likes tug-of-war with them.)
Darcy meeting OC at 6/7 weeks
Darcy at 14/15 weeks and OC earlier today.
...and this time we know for a fact it was the puppy that ripped up the carpet. Same carpet, different doorway.
At least this time CR kept his cool (for now...it's only been about 5 minutes). But this time Tigger is the one that discovered the damage as it was happening. He blames himself as he was the last one to put up the baby gate. But, it isn't his fault in any way shape or form. I think I've managed to convince him of that. But, now he's concerned that he will lose Darcy like he lost Frodo.
This parenting thing is tough. So's being a wife, and a puppy-mom.....
My heart hurts...
Edit: about an hour later
I think I'm going to be sick. The more I think about the whole situation the sicker I feel. I just want to puke and then hide until forever.... Puppy is still outside. CR is amazingly calm and even joking with Tigger. I just want to puke....My heart still hurts (Blood pressure is 100/140). I can't live like this. This fear....we still haven't talked about the other night. We will...work project to get finished first. >insert scream here<
So, my little puppy is ten weeks old now. She is growing like a weed. When I took her to the vet two weeks ago Dr. Meredith said that she expects to see Darcy weighing in at 20 pounds or so when she goes back in two more weeks. That would be a 12 pound gain in four weeks. I doubted it at the time, now I think it is entirely possible for this (what was) little tiny puppy to be that big. She is already about three times as big as Baron. Poor Baron, he doesn't get any rest with this puppy around. Darcy pounces on him and tries to tackle him...she won't let Baron get under his blanket and rest. Baron is definately getting his exercise, poor old man. LOL!!
Here she is under my desk, one of her favorite spots. If you look close you can see the speaker wires that she chewed through last week. I thought they were on top of the footstool with all of the other wires. I must have kicked them off. If you compare this picture with the one of her asleep under my desk, you can see how much she's grown in just two short weeks.
Here she is taking a small break from chewing on any and everything she can sink her teeth into. She has figured out how to get into the dog-toy basket and strew the toys about just like a toddler would do. I pick up dog toys all day long. She likes to chew on other dog items, like the collar you see in this picture, the dog brush and nail clippers, she really likes the rawhide bones. I have to keep an eye on both Darcy and Baron, if I give each of them a chew bone, somehow one of them will end up with both bones and growl and snarl to keep the other away.
She is no where near house trained. ~sigh~ I'm not so sure she is even beginning to get the concept. She will potty each and every time we take her outside, but if she is inside and feels the urge...she just squats. Shoot, she pee'd at my feet last night while I was sewing my new purse. yulk! Although she did 'ask' to go out yesterday, once...but I'm thinking it was a fluke. She'll keep her crate dry at night, if I take the water away about an hour or so before bedtime. If she has a drink just before bed, she will pee. I know; I know; patience dear, patience. ~sigh~
I've never had trouble getting a dog/puppy to learn to: "Come here." but Darcy just won't do it. I don't know if she can't hear the pitch of my voice or what, but I'll call and call, she'll ignore and ignore....if I whistle she'll come or at least turn and look at me. Guess I'll have to get out the leash and the treats. Teach her to come and sit during the same lessons.
I feel the need to post something, anything, I feel the need to write and get things off of my chest. But what exactly is it that has me so down in the dumps? I wish I could put my finger on it...
CR and I had a really good day yesterday. Tigger was off in Tupelo visiting his grandparents so CR and I decided to do Valentine's several days early. We dressed up (well as dressed as jeans and a t-shirt is; I even put make-up on!!) and headed off to T-Town. We stopped at the book store and spend $75.00 on several books and I picked up a couple of things to give as Christmas presents next year. (I'm always on the look-out for a bargain or two.) Then we went to FantasyLand and spent too much money on some eh-hem 'adult' toys. Off for dinner out at O'Charley's since I had never been. It was pretty good, but it wasn't great. Then we went to Target to do a little regular shopping. We finally made it home and played with our new toys.
The puppy woke me up at 6:30 this morning. I was not at all ready to get up, but I had to as she was very insistent that someone let her out of her crate. Well, I got back there and she's made a mess that had to be cleaned up. So by 7:00 this morning I already had a load of wash in the washer an the laundry room floor was mopped. CR got up around 9:00 and I laid on the couch and took a nap. Then we played with our new toys some more.
I dunno, I was looking around on the home computer trying to find a picture I remember taking several years ago. I couldn't find it, but I did find a whole bunch of other/older pictures. Pictures that make me miss Tigger being a young kid. His first day of Kindergarten, Easter morning, his 5th birthday, his first bath. ~sigh~ I hate that I only get to have one kid to experience firsts. Especially since I didn't know to appreciate all of his firsts way back when he was so little. I just assumed that I would have other babies to experience those firsts with. I didn't even keep a lock of his hair from his first haircut. I do have all of his teeth, though...I guess in a silly attempt to make up for the lack of a lock of hair. What happened to my little boy, my baby boy?
Shit, why am I crying?
- Do you have any pets now?
- Did you have pets growing up?
- Out of all the pets you've ever had, who was your favorite?
- Are you a dog or cat person?
- Let's see a furry creature.
1. Oh yes do we have the pets. 1 Dog: Baron 7 years old. 1 puppy: Darcy 7 weeks 1 cat: OC (Outside Cat) age is unknown--adopted from the pound...she's outside because I am severely allergic, but I love cats anyway. 1 Russian Dwarf hamster: Stumpy, so named because he lost a leg to injury when he was a little bitty baby. 1 Bearded Dragon: Boomer.
2. We had a lot of pets while I was growing up---but no cats because dad despises them. Several dogs: Vicki, Toto, Rebel, and another Rebel. A guinea pig: Peanut, so named because the brown stripe he had was the color of peanut butter. Two rabbits: Surprise and Cotton.
3. Oh, this is a very hard question to answer...each one was a favorite at its time because they were 'only' pets. Samson was a favorite kitty because he was 'mine' only mine. I got him when I was seperated from my ex. Samson came when he was called, he liked to lay on the bed with me. He died mysteriously after I moved back in with my ex. Baron is a favorite dog because he is the first small dog I've ever owned. He loves to cuddle on the couch and sleep under the covers with me.
4. Both. I'd love nothing more than to be sitting on the couch and have my favorite dog snuggled up to me on one side and a kitty curled up on the other.

Darcy meets OC
Baron loves laying in the sun
We've had Darcy just under a week now. She will now sleep in her crate at night and not howl all night long. However, we did have to put her in the farthest room in the house from us for two nights in order for this to happen. She will keep the small crate dry, but the little bit bigger one doesn't stay dry. oh well. When we had to go to the office on Tuesday we put her and Baron in the laundry room together and put up the baby gate. Puddles and one poop pile greeted us on our return....but I believe it is better for Darcy to have the run of the laundry room while we are gone than it would be to make her stay in the crate all day long.
During the day when we are working from home, she prefers to hang out in the office with me, she curls up under the desk at my feet.
I kind of like this as I know when she gets up and can take her straight outside. If she naps elsewhere in the house we don't know when she gets up and she pees before we can get her outside. She will wake up walk about ten feet and squat. When I take her outside, I put her down and she squats wherever I set her. We've only had three poop accidents in the house (not counting Tuesday). I'm very diligent about watching her after she has eaten. She's a bit different, though. She poops before she eats, then waits about a half an hour or so before having to poop again. If the other people in the house would just pay attention to her like I do she'd get out on time more often. Hello?!? she whines and heads for the door.
We had some snow in Alabama this morning. I took her out so she could do her business and she tried to chase a flake or two, it was cute. Here is a picture of Darcy greeting OC (Outside Cat) this morning:
The older she gets the more she plays. This is today's favorite toy:
That pretty much updates you on Darcy. btw: we are looking for another name. Darcy does not come easily to anyone's lips and it just doesn't seem to fit...but the three of us can't all decide on a different name.
We adopted a new puppy yesterday. She is 1/2 German Shephard and 1/2 Alaskan Husky. She is so beautiful, with matching blue eyes. We met the mother dog (the Husky) she is a beautiful specimen of a full-blooded papered dog. On the small side for a Husky, but very friendly and attentive to her puppies, but definately tired of them suckling her every chance they get. She comes up, checks on them at the same time avoiding their little seeking hungry mouths. shoot, I'd run too if I had 8 children trying to drain me every second of every day. The dad was a full blooded papered German Shephard. The owners say he was a loving and loyal dog. He was hit by a pick-up and killed two weeks ago.
She is right at six weeks old. The longer we have her the more I'm convinced she was still just a touch too young to take from her Mom and siblings. We had pick of the litter though and since we wanted a female and there were only two, Darcy being the only one with two blue eyes, we took her yesterday.
She and I had a rough night last night. We put her in Baron's crate for the night and placed it by the bed. She went in and went right to sleep, but she woke up every hour, whined cried, chewed on my fingers and finally would settle back down. Except about four this morning, she just wouldn't quit crying and rustling around. So, about five I gave up, got her out of the crate and took her outside; where she promptly pee'd and pooped. The crate stayed dry through the night. She and I dozed on the couch until about six when she stirred again. Back outside where she pee'd again. Came inside and gave her a bite to eat, back outside to poop and pee. Between 6:15 and 7:15 she pee'd in the house six times.** ~sigh~ She'd just squat and pee where she was, no warning signs or anything, just play, squat, pee, play....except I'd tell her 'no!', snatch her up, and take her outside. I have to assume that Tigger will love her to no end. But this weekend is his best friend's birthday so they are spending the weekend together. Tigger was there when we picked her up, he helped pick her first collar and made sure she was semi-settled before taking off. So, he's not completely clueless...he just has no idea that the puppy can pee six times in an hour.
I wish tonight weren't a school night....She'd be in Tigger's room tonight if it weren't. Especially since she will be his responsibility.
*Name may change depending on time and if we think of one we like better.
**WARNING: Do not adopt a puppy in January if you are not willing to spend time in the dark and the cold!
Show us a happy memory.

Tigger's reaction to the new Christmas puppy, December 2005. The World's best hug, followed by tears of happiness. Who would have thought that such a little bit of a puppy would grow to over 80 pounds??
