We've survived another round of storms.
This morning after I found that a tornado had touched down this close >< to my in-laws house I was really on edge about the storm coming my way. Ater I received word that school was letting out early so the kids would be home before the severe stuff hit; I gathered 'storm supplies' and put them on the kitchen table. Then I sat back to wait on the weather, the closer it got the more nervous poor Darcy got. Jordan got home and I told him to leave his shoes on and if I hollered "Run!" he was to drop everything and run to the storm shelter. Not to question or say 'hold on a sec.' just run and I'd be behind him. I lost TV and the internet before the first loud clap of thunder hit. Once that hit, Darcy cowered under my desk while I was sitting here...when I moved, she was stuck to me like Velcro. The storm blasted through, high winds, blasting rain, no hail and I kept expecting to see a tree or branch blow by. But, nothing. The TV came back on just in time for a tornado warning to be declared for my corner of the county. I stuck around long enough to see that the storm had passed us and the warning was for people to the east and north of us. So, even though my specific little town was mentioned in the warning....we didn't 'seek shelter'.
Now, it is raining and the bad stuff is well east and north of us.
ah...springtime in Alabama.
oh, and no damage to my in-laws house (which is good 'cause they are out of town.) But, apparently the tornado caused damage to some buildings within a mile of their place, and then it hopped over the main part of town and went towards the mall and hit a tractor supply place, tossing tractors and other outside equipment around. As far as I've heard there weren't any injuries.
ah....springtime in Mississippi.
My corner of Alabama had severe weather today, including two tornado warnings. Luckily there was no damages nor injuries.
Just wanted to let you know that I am safe and sound. No worries for me and mine.
There is currently some pretty nasty stuff including tornado touch downs further south and east of me. But for the time being all bad weather has passed by the I-Luv-Eeyore household.
We were awakened at about 4:15 this morning by hail pounding down on our house. Luckily there wasn't any damage (as far as I can tell). I did manage to get a picture of one of the hail stones that woke us up.
There is the potential for some pretty severe stuff coming my way later this morning to early afternoon. They are calling for 20 tornados with 2 of the F3 or higher and at least 50 severe wind incidents. This is basically for the Northern half of Alabama and the eastern most part of Mississippi.
What a fun day is in store.
Storm Shelter: check
Flash light: check
Radio: check
Batteries: need to double check
Prayers: check
While the rest of the country is recovering from last weeks snow and ice storms. People in Alabama are making sure their air conditioners and lawn mowers are in good working condition as it won't be long until both are needed.
I took this picture this afternoon. If you look really close you can see the flower is about to bloom and there are little green stamens (or whatever) already poking through. This tree will have a light blush of green and pinky-red to it in less than a week.
I also took several pictures of the daffodils that are in bloom around the house. I almost waited too long as some of them are already dying off. I can't wait for my wisteria bush to burst into blossom. I noticed the ants were everywhere today, too. oh, last night when I took Darcy out I was met by a chorus of froggy song from the swampy area just down the road. I imagine tomorrow I will see the first mosquito of the year.
Along with the early blossoms, the bugs, and the frog singing, we also get to anticipate tornado season.
The air conditioner kicked on today as the temps outside got into the 70's and the sun heated the house up to nearly 80. Days like this I wish we had screens on the windows and I didn't have such bad seasonal allergies.
CR left for India this morning. I'm surprised the plane took off as there was a tornado watch going on at take-off time. But, it did take off and he should be landing in Newark, NJ any moment now. The flight for India leaves tonight at around 9:00.
We are having a warm winter. But the house is staying cold. We had the heater set on 68 and we were all cold, even in sweats and layers. So it got turned up to 70. I'm still cold. But, I refuse to turn the heat up anymore. The bill is astronomical as it is. I'll just have to keep the layers and blankets around. Heh, yesterday I even scrambled around in the coat closet and found a mis-matched pair of those stretchy gloves, cut the tips off, and now I'm working with gloves on to keep my hands warm, my fingers from the top knuckle is the only skin showing...and now my hands are warm, but my finger tips are cold.
Christmas decorations come down and the house gets put into some kind of order before CR comes home.
The spelling bee is Friday. Tigger is sick and tired of studying for it. I hope he does a good job. He came home from school yesterday and said he got a 106 on his semester test in Science. We already knew about the 105 in Social Studies. Report cards come out this afternoon. I can hardly wait.
ack! I need to work, although it is hard to work with the house so quiet. I may have to go turn on the TV even if there isn't anyone out there to watch it. But, I keep hearing 'things'. Just little pops and scritchy kind of noises, but not rodent noises...they are hard to explain. They aren't coming from the radio, or from the wind blowing outside (because it isn't), but still I hear them. I'm wondering if I'm hearing the electicity flow through the walls? I hate to be alone. I may end up going to the office several days next week, just so I'm not alone so much.
