Chris and I went to the doctor this morning. He went because he's gained close to 30 pounds in the last 12 weeks and me because of a cough I've had for two to three weeks. As I predicted the doctor took some of Chris's blood to run some tests and set up an appointment for a resting metabolism rate check.
When it came time to look at me though, I was in for a couple of surprises one of which was a chest x-ray and the other was the doctor predicting, after listening to me cough that the outcome of the x-ray would be that I had whooping cough (pertussiss). He went on to explain that people 'our' age (he's close to me in age) are finding out the hard way that some of our imunizations are not working as they did when we were younger and we need boosters. Oh, great. Whooping cough...and where all have I been since I started coughing? My parent's (in their 70's), my in-law's (in their 60's), Houston (all my new and old friends) and numerous other places. I got to thinking of the newborn babies that I had just seen in the waiting room. I didn't go near them---but I had coughed and even though I covered my mouth germs are escapable little critters. ~sigh~ So, a few minutes of 'oh my goodness who all have I infected?' was going through my mind before the doctor came back and said "Nope, not whooping cough. Just good old fashioned bronchitis." ~sigh~ of relief.
So, why is it that you can have a cough for two to three weeks and feel fine, except for the cough; go see the doctor and he says "You've got bronchitis, you're sick." and *WHAM!!* you feel terrible....all you want to do is take a nap and not have to do anything? This was even before I took any of the meds he prescribed...two different cough meds AND an antibiotic but no decongestant to help clear the head even though he saw fluid behind my ears. Oh well, the pharmasist said I can take Sudafed with the other meds so I will.
I'm so happy I don't have whooping cough.
wohoo!! I've been so busy since the last update...India, France, Italy----wow!! I walked and walked and walked in all three places. I also ate and ate and ate. :) It was hard to choose healthy when it was restaraunt/hotel meals for every single meal for 20 straight days. Let me just say that in France and Italy it seems that their idea of breakfast is a pastry of some sort---mostly with chocolate. While my taste buds were happy I worried about my waist line.
Okay, when I last posted it was just after the Holidays and I was looking forward to my trip....I weighed in at 153.8. Now, here it is four weeks later, and I've vacationed all around the world, walked on soil that was tread upon by Ceasar, Augusta, Caligula, and Pompeiians. I ate pasta and pastries to my hearts content. I walked until I thought my unconditioned calf muscles would seize up and collapse on me. I gained weight. Not much but it was still a gain and it was enough to make my over all trend go up instead of down. Thie morning when I stood on the scale I weighed in at----154.0.
Back to oatmeal for breakfast and fruits and veggies for snacks. Back to more water and less soda. I need to start some sort of exercise, too.
I'm not unhappy. I just need to re-focus and get back to the 'plan'...only 23 poiunds to go to reach 'goal' but only 15 pounds to go to be 'really happy'.
I've decided to change my *official* accountability day from Monday to Friday. Mondays really aren't a good day to report/record my weight as we tend to eat our worst on the weekends. This will give me five days to eat healthy before an *official* account.
But, since it is Monday and since I did step on the scale this morning....I gained a pound from last Monday up to 159. ~sigh~ BUT, we ate Chinese Saturday night and steak last night....both with excess amounts of sodium to add to water weight. But, enough with the excuses...I had a couple of sodas this week, too and some 100 calorie packs that are just loaded with empty sugars and stuff. I did not eat oatmeal for breakfast every morning and I did not eat as many fruits and veggies as I have in the past few weeks.
Grilled chicken for supper tonight.
I'll check back in on Friday.
